UMBC MISSION STATEMENT
We, UMBC, seek to KNOW the love of God, GROW as disciples in Jesus Christ and GO share the love of God to others through service.
UMBC VISION STATEMENT
We, the Union Missionary Baptist Church, exist to share the Word of Jesus Christ through evangelism and fellowship, transforming our members from POTENTIAL to HOPE, from HOPE to Vitality and from Vitality to Enterprise.
OUR VISION IN DEPTH
Together, as a body of believers, we envision a ministry where God is worshipped above all else, all believers are growing in Christ-like maturity and being equipped for their ministry in the church and life ministry in the world, unsaved people are led to salvation in Jesus Christ and fellowship in his church, and God’s love is lavishly expressed in meeting the needs of others.
Together, as a body of believers. . . (Ephesians 4:15, 16)
We see our church as an authentic community where we know and care about each other – not merely as a loosely connected group of people. We strive to faithfully love and submit to one another with a servant’s heart and to work together under the headship of Jesus Christ and the Leadership of UMBC to harness the full potential of our various personalities, talents, and spiritual gifts.
… we envision a ministry where… (Proverbs 16:3; Acts 6:1-6; Ephesians 4:11-13)
We choose to be a church that actively loves and serves God and disciples people through a variety of effective ministries. We intentionally initiate new ministries as God provides the resources to do so and modify or eliminate existing ministries that have proven to be ineffective in serving our mission.
… God is worshiped above all else … (Psalms. 34:1-3; Romans. 12:1, 2)
We strive to create corporate worship experiences where people sense the presence and greatness of the Holy Spirit. We believe that God calls His people to worship and serve Him, not from a sense of obligation, but because they desire to serve a living God. Our strong emphasis on prayer brings us into intimate contact with God and declares our total dependence on Him.
… all believers are growing in Christ-like maturity and being equipped for their ministry in the Church and life mission in the world …
(1 Corinthians 12; Ephesians 4:11-13; 2 Timothy. 3:16, 17)
We believe that the church is not just a place to experience spiritual birth, but a place to grow in spiritual maturity and to become fully equipped for every good work God has planned. Because a growing, life-giving relationship with God results in transformation into His likeness, we aspire to help people of all ages learn to know Jesus in a personal way and enjoy daily fellowship with Him as their Savior, Lord and Friend. We long for all people to experience the truth that He alone provides joy, purpose and fulfillment in life. We want to help Christians discover and develop their unique giftedness for ministry in the church and in the world, learn how to effectively share their faith with others, and participate in the responsibilities necessary to continue the mission of the church.
… unsaved people are led to salvation in Jesus Christ and fellowship in His Church … (Matthew 28:19, 20; Luke 15)
We provide an environment where people sense God’s love and goodness, encouraging them to consider the truth of the gospel. We are committed to pray for unsaved people, to serve their needs, and to share with them Christ as God’s sole provision for salvation. We guide unbelievers toward faith in Christ by giving of our time, talent, and treasure.
… and God’s love is lavishly expressed in meeting the needs of others. (Matthew 5:16; 22:39; James 2:14-18)
As an expression of our love for Christ, we serve the needs of people in, and beyond, our congregation and partner with other Christian groups who strive to do the same. Hence, to those who need assistance, we express the love of Christ in tangible ways so that they may “see our good deeds and praise the Father in heaven.”
